Amira’s Summary Of ‘Moving Target’

The book that I’ve been reading for the past month was the book Moving Target. It’s about a girl named Cassie, who finds out she’s a part of a special bloodline, hears gunshots, and watches her father enter the hospital all in less than 5 minutes… He was shot at by a group apparently called the Hastati. Her father gave her his notebook, and the last thing she heard him say was ” go to Brother Gregorio.” Obviously having no idea whats happening and assuming shes in a dream, she runs to her best friend, Simone’s house. She tries to tell Simone everything that’s been happening, and they also try to contact the hospital to see how her  father was doing. In mid-discussion, they get shot at by a man outside. As they slowly find their way to where Brother Gregorio lives, they encounter odd looking people, but her father told her to never trust anyone When they get there, Brother Gregorio  introduces them to himself and his nephew, Asher. He tells Cassie about who she is, her bloodline, and how shes one of the few people that have access to the spear, the spear that can shape the future, control destiny, and possibly destroy it aswell. He also tells her about the Hastati and how they are supposed to make sure the spear doesn’t get into the wrong hands, but the bad part is, they lost it. after years of trying to find it for themselves, they give up, resorting to finding the people that can use it for answers, and Cassie is their next target. After Cassie and Simone settle in their own room, they try to figure out where the spear could be. Once they have an outline  they live the next morning to go to a small village in Italy. When the cab pulls up that simone called, they noticed it wasd the exact same person that was shooting at them! Another call pulls up, with Asher in side, and they quickly get on their way to Italy. they found a box that gave them clues and led them to a special place. This place is where they find Cassie’s never known Grandmother, who says she can help keep them safe and find the spear before its too late.

Some of the themes I found-

Suspense: some chase scenes left me in suspense…. will they make it or not?

Determination: Cassie is determined to find the spear and not only save her life, but her fathers.

Danger: possible death at every turn, armed enemies, children like Cassie, Simone, and even Asher (teenager) shouldn’t be brought into such dangerous situations!

Fantasy: obviously, since this isn’t real, and since you wouldn’t usually see someone with a special birthmark that means only they can control some sort of spear, it would have to be an amazing dream. if only!

The Biggest Genre-

Action And Adventure.

its an adventure with LOTS of action in order to find this mystical spear that could control and destroy the earths pure destiny.

Zootopia: Or is it?

Nonfictional real life story told by Amira

Zootopia

Note* I wasn’t sure if I had permission to use my friends name, so I changed it for the purpose of this post.

The alarm clocks buzz in my ear, the burning of my eyes, the scent of turkey bacon, aaaaaand..

Today.

Today is the day.

Today is the day I get to see her again.

Today is the day I will see her again at the movie theater and we will watch-

Wait, what are we seeing again? Ah, yes.

Today is the day I will see Amanda at the movie theater and we will watch Zootopia!

Such a beautiful Sunday morning, yet I wait hours until the fun really starts.

               “Hey, dad?” “Yes?”

Wait, he nearly broke his thumb yesterday playing basketball with me. “Never mind!!” Well, it’s way too windy to play baseball. Boredom strikes again.

well, I could take a naaa-aaa-app……..

COUPLE HOURS LATER

“Bye sweetie”

“bye, mom.”

Only 45 minutes- and a car ride in my best friends car- is all that is ahead of me!

I walk through the mall doors and- oh, all that hit me was some cold air, I was expecting a bit more excitement. Oh well. Smell of popcorn filling the air, people all about, Excitement was rushing through my body as I entered the dark movie theater.

Wow! Best movie ever! It felt like I was really there in an animal wonderland….

Was I?

Zootopia: Re-created by Lux-

The sizzling sound of turkey bacon frying woke me up on this glorious Sunday morning. I sprung from my bed, smelling the wonderful smell of bacon filling my room. I ran downstairs with excitement because today, today I am going to see Zootopia!!! I sat down at the table and poured myself some orange juice. My mom reminded me that we don’t have much time until my friend Amanda is picking me up, so I ate my breakfast and went upstairs to get ready. Putting on my socks, I heard the car honk, it was Amanda! I went downstairs and out the door. “Goodbye, mom!” I shouted. “Goodbye!” She said back. I hopped in the car and we drove away. We got to the movie theater and sat down. “This is going to be the best!” said Amanda. “I know!” I said back. The movie started and the lights dimmed. We were watching the movie and we were about half way when suddenly, I turned into a pink fluffy Unicorn and I was in the movie!!! Everyone disappeared and I was in the town of Zootopia! the first thing I am going to do is go to the ‘Pawsicle’ stand and try a ‘pawcicle’. After that i am going to wander around and explore. ‘Wow!’ I said to myself. ‘this place is awesome.’

“OH MY GOSH!!!” I said. “It’s Gazelle!” she offered me a ticket to her concert! “Sure!” I said. After the concert ended everything was back to normal. I was back with Amanda! “Where were you?” She asked. “Umm… Washroom.”

SMART Goal #2

Goal: Acquire my right, center, and left splits.

Specific: I want to acquire my right, center, and left splits. This is important because I need to do them in routines for dance competitions this April.

Measurable: Measure distance to the floor and for center splits, distance to 180 degrees.

Attainable: I will spend 5 minutes on each set of splits each night and measure my improvement every 3 weeks.

Realistic: I will use my own body weight for right and left splits, and my parents can help push me into a deeper stretch with my center split

Timely: 1st week of April

Jan 14/16: Right- 9.5 cm

Left-16.5 cm

Center-15.5 cm

SMART Goal #1

Goal: Use more variety when writing

Specific: I want to learn to use more variety in my writing because writing is an important skill and I want to enhance it, possibly becoming an author one day. I want to make my writing unique.

Measurable: I wont have to think too hard about word choice as before. Unique word choice will start to come natural.

Attainable: After I wright something, I’ll read through my work and see if I can change any words to make more variety. I have the time and resources to follow this plan.

Realistic: I have resources to find alternate words for some words that may be overused. I think my goal is challenging because I can overuse words a lot but I know that even though its challenging, it is also achievable.

Timely: I would like to achieve this goal by the end of June because that is when school ends, and if I complete it by then, I’ll have some time to practice my writing over the summer. Having more time will let me go more in depth and increase my skill for next year.

My New Years Resolutions

  1. Use more variety when writing
  2. Work hard in school
  3. Read more books
  4. Get better at math
  5. Be quiet in class
  6. Get my right, left, and middle splits
  7. Spend more time with family
  8. Eat healthy snacks
  9. Don’t break my glasses
  10. Do better in soccer

What Should Be Invented This Year?

Inventions, inventions. the things that have made up the world we know today. Without them, we wouldn’t have things like electronics, easy communication, education that is taught at schools that can help us get a job and make money. Everything is connected, all because of Inventions. I think it would be cool if a working, safe, time machine was invented. There are a lot of memories I would love to re-experience, and things I would like to know about the future!

Like, what will my future job be? Things like that that could be found out would help me know what I should be focusing on and the path to go. Having guidance can make it easier to accomplish a task. You might also want to look at things, re-experience, remember Sometimes I try to remember past memories, but it can be hard. A time machine would make it so much easier. Life would be happening again right in front of your eyes! Someone could use a time machine to take a closer look at history, and possibly change it, modify what we know and possibly make the world better today.

Inventions have shaped the world we know today, so why not make more? More inventions could help shape he future. A time machine may have its pros, but still has it’s cons. The biggest one for me being safety. If a time machine existed, I would assume it to be safe. With a start comes a conclusion, and hopefully the conclusion is that a time machine is invented!

Water Of Life: Cambodia

Have you ever heard of the Water Of Life foundation? Water Of Life is an organization that helps raise money for children in places like Cambodia. The Lanning family has recently collaborated with the Water Of Life foundation, and they have raised over $70,000 to help children in Cambodia. Every once in a while, the Lanning’s go to Cambodia to spend some time with other families, and while they are there they document their trip in vlogs. I think that when I’m a little bit older, a trip to Cambodia to do some possible volunteer work would be a good experience for me.

My Interests! PART 3

Always remember that your interests are an important part of your identity, and help define who you are as a unique human being. These are only a few of mine, as I have many more that express my special personality. These interests are some of the very things that make us different, and it’s good to be different. So when you tell someone about your self, dig a little deeper. Why would you just brush the surface when there’s a whole other world waiting to be explored? When you have your moment to show your true emotions to everyone, you waste it. Why? Are you nervous? Scared? Afraid about being known? Being shy, a part of you that makes you, YOU!!!! Whether you believe it or not, everything you do describes yourself as an individual, and you wouldn’t want to stop doing what you love, right? Find a little confidence and ask yourself why your friend actually asked you that question, and give them a decent answer! It will be worth it.

My Interests! PART 2

For example, me being a social person and also loving to make videos, makes me a fan of YouTube! YouTube is almost like a blog, where millions of people can show others what they are doing, and also look at what other people have done. The only difference is, YouTube is for videos! There is a range of videos to watch, and it’s just an amazing place for people to do many things. The videos can be used for educational purposes, music videos, and basically using it as a video blog! I’ve learned a lot, laughed a lot, and have had a good time (a lot). I hope that you find YouTube awesome as well!

Staying on the technological side of things, video games can keep me engrossed for a long time! One of my favorite video games being Minecraft. Minecraft is a sandbox game made of blocks. You can build, survive, and go on an adventure in 4 modes.  Creative mode, Survival mode, Adventure mode, and Spectator mode. My favorite is creative mode, because I can build whatever I want to! A house, a working computer, a windmill, the Eiffel tower, you name it! I love to build it all! Sometimes I create external servers and go and build things with my friends. It can be used for educational purposes too with something called Minecraft Education. I don’t know much about it, but it seems like a great way to have students learn with something they love- Minecraft!

On the other hand, something I’ve been doing almost all my life is dance. It’s a fun, great way to get exercise, and show your emotions through movement. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old. This year, I’m taking Jazz, Musical Theatre, Ballet, Hip Hop, and hopefully Lyrical.  Musical Theatre is basically dancing, singing, singing, and acting put into one! Every year, I do a solo and a duet with my cousin in Musical Theatre, and this is my first year doing ballet. Practice is not only fun, but is also hard work. It takes time to learn new things. The two main places the groups get to perform what they’ve done is at recital and competition. Competition is basically the same thing as recital, except there is more than one dance school and you have a chance to win an award. Recital is when everyone at dance just performs their dance, that’s mostly it. It is really fun to watch others, and its really fun to be the one people are watching.
